All volunteers (including non members) interested in the fantastic history of our town and district are always welcome, as are contributions of historic material.
We are all volunteers and we get a big buzz from history. Any extra help you might be able to provide will be extremely valuable to the preservation of Healesville’s history for the enjoyment and knowledge of future generations. No special skills are required. Whether you are 15 or 105, all you need is an interest in the absolutely amazing history of Healesville and District, a smile and a willingness to help out and make a difference.
The Society has an enormous collection of historical items from the Healesville and Yarra Valley area including the Toolangi district. These include photographs, art works, tourism souvenirs, family histories, cemetery records, newspapers and ephemera.
If you are looking for a really interesting place to volunteer a few hours here and there and ideally also have some computer skills like data entry, scanning and Word Processing, the Society would love to hear from you. In some cases you can even assist from home.
Age is no barrier – young or old or in the middle, everyone is welcome.
Current projects that need new volunteers include:
- Digitising our extensive collection of photographs and objects using the Melbourne Museum “Victorian Collections” data base
- Cataloguing
- Preservation work
- Photographing our ever changing changing street scapes
Expert guidance will be provided.
Should you have existing specialist skills or training in any area of interest that might be valuable to the Society we would also love to hear from you.
If you are interested in helping out please drop by during our public open hours and have a chat over a cup of tea or coffee. Otherwise email or phone us and we can arrange another suitable time to discuss what you might enjoy doing.
The Society is comprised entirely of volunteers. It has been working tirelessly since 1984 and there is much still to be done. History also continues to unfold all around us and is not just something that happened 100 years ago.
We would love you to join us.
